QUEENSTOWN might be a young person’s town but the make-up of councillors after October’s elections is unlikely to reflect that. Of the 12 Queenstown/Wakatipu ward candidates standing for six seats, no fewer than seven are 60 or over and another is 58. Arrowtown candidate Lex Perkins is 70 though his part-time job as a Mountain Scene paper boy doubtless keeps him young. 

MEANWHILE, Queenstown’s second youngest councillor, Cath Gilmour, turned 50 last weekend. She’s obviously shouldered quite a workload in her first term - she’s undergoing shoulder surgery this week. 

IN SOCIETY news, long-time local Tony McQuilkin’s daughter Kate is newly-engaged to former Dunedin mayor Sir Clifford Skeggs’ grandson Michael. He proposed to her on bended knee in Fiji. 

I SEE we now have a Devil Burger as well as a Hell Pizza. Balancing the ledger, I guess, is a local spa and beauty parlour called Heaven.
