What is RSS?

RSS is a free, time-saving way of monitoring news on subjects or organisations of your choice.

Rather than browse or search websites for new content related to specific news items, you can subscribe to the related RSS feed and the news will be sent to you!

When content is published, it will be delivered to your RSS reader and be available for you to view whenever you want.

RSS feeds contain a headline, summary and a link back to the full story on scene.co.nz.

To view RSS headlines:

1. You need to have an RSS reader. This is a piece of software that checks the feeds and lets you read any new articles that have been added. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are downloadable applications. Different news readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to choose one that will work with your computer. 2. Once you have chosen a news reader, all you have to do is decide what content you want to receive. For example, if you would like the latest Mountain Scene Top Story, simply visit the Top Story section and you will notice an orange RSS button on the right hand side of the subject title bar.

If you click on the button you can subscribe to the feed in various ways - some browsers, including Firefox 2, Explorer 7, automatically check feeds for you when you visit a website, and display an icon when they find one.
