Queenstown’s Jazzfest now has an event management hot-shot at the helm.

Winter Festival boss Simon Green (pictured) is taking the reins of the Queenstown week of music.

Green, who will continue to organise the Winter Festival, brings about a decade of event management experience to the jazz extravaganza, which has been run on a voluntary basis until now.

“After a number of years with trustees managing and producing the event it was time to engage the skills and experience of a professional event manager and we’re thrilled to have secured someone as talented as Simon Green for the role,” ASB Queenstown Jazzfest chairman Luke Baldock says.

This year festival-goers can expect five days packed with free and priced acts, rather than the week-long affair of the past.

“The gig programme will be condensed down into those five days and then obviously there will probably a couple more ticketed events…just to be able to deliver a bit of more of that high-calibre entertainment and recover some of the costs,” Green says.

Green guarantees the community stages – a new addition and big hit last year – will still be showcasing talent.

Jazzfest runs from Thursday October 21 to Monday October 25.
