Queenstown band The Lynch Mob is staging the Southern Hemisphere’s highest gig – a mile above sea level, at Cecil Peak.
About 150 fans will be choppered to the spectacular mountain-top show from Jack’s Point on March 27.
The Lynch Mob will blast out a full production of Pink Floyd’s landmark album The Dark Side of the Moon and other Pink Floyd classics in a natural amphitheatre, while punters enjoy bird’s-eye views of the Wakatipu.
“It’s going to be a gig like no other,” says Lynch Mob guitarist Ben Lynch.
“Logistically, it’s a fairly big exercise as we have to lift power generators, band and sound equipment, toilets and barbecues to the site by helicopter.”
The show launches the inaugural Over The Top Rock annual music festival and is the brainchild of Over The Top helicopters owner Louisa “Choppy” Patterson.
Tickets cost $495 per person.
It includes brunch at Jack’s Point, return helicopter transfers, BBQ lunch in the mountains and The Lynch Mob performance.
Numbers are strictly limited to 150, but Queenstown locals are being offered the first bite at tickets now from the new festival’s website.
