Healthy eating just got more eco-friendly in Queenstown.

Local Marcia McWhirter, pictured with her four-year-old daughter Kate, is selling zero-waste wraps for sandwiches and snacks in a bid to cut down waste.

She’s imported the Indian-made products – made from an “eco-friendly fabric” – from Australian company 4MyEarth and has spent the past six weeks rolling out the concept locally.

McWhirter says the wraps are a substitute for environmentally unfriendly plastic bags and wraps and suit adults as well as children.

“Compared to the cost of [plastic wrap], it pays for itself very quickly,” she says.

McWhirter will sell her wraps and pockets – priced between $10.50 and $15.50 – at a sale of designer gear at the Arrowtown Hall this weekend.
